Frequently Asked Questions

In the course of our business, we are asked some questions time and time again...  Maybe you have some of the same questions.  If so, you've come to the right place.  If the information you're looking for isn't here, please contact us.

There are many reasons why consulting us can be beneficial for companies with existing IT support.

It's important to remember that IT is not regulated, unlike more traditional professions, such as law and accountancy.  Anybody can legally set up as an IT consultancy.  How can you be sure that your current arrangements are doing the best for your business?  We can look at how your business operates and perform an audit, giving you the peace of mind that everything is as effective as it should be.

Of course, IT is everywhere, but relatively speaking it is the new kid on the block.  Sadly, this leads to two sub-optimal scenarios:

  1. The best computer hobbyist in the office, often somebody in the finance department, is given the responsibility of looking after IT.  This happens most in small companies.

But logically, this makes no sense.  Would you trust your marketing department to handle your legal matters?  Your HR department to handle your sales?  No.

IT is about more than just being able to purchase and configure the same off-the-shelf software that everyone else uses.
  2. Quite often, individuals who are actually working in IT full-time have drifted into IT without any formal background or qualification, and again, they are often glorified hobbyists.  Without the fundamental understanding of basic principles, they are not in a position to be able to recommend the best solutions.

Imagine taking your Ford to a Vauxhall mechanic for a service.  He tells you that has never seen one, he has no idea how they operate, and therefore he can't help you out.  You ask him if Vauxhalls are the best make of car for your needs, and he replies that of course they are.  But this isn't an informed opinion - remember he's never heard of any other makes, let alone what their pros and cons are.

Not much of a mechanic, I'm sure you'll agree.

IT is about increasing efficiency, and systems that do work which humans would otherwise do.  Therefore many in-house IT departments have other interests at heart than what is best for the company.  Trouble-free, efficient systems mean less manpower needed to support and maintain those systems.

We offer an independent, unbiased view, and are happy to report on an existing situation, and make recommendations.  We aim to make friends, not enemies, and often the existing IT department has been pleased to have our expertise on tap, and we have worked in tandem.

Finally, and most importantly, we offer much more than support.  We have the capability to build you a new, better bridge, rather than waste too much time and money fixing the old broken one.
